I’ve been down in San Diego for the past week visiting family. Randomly, I ended up in a Smart and Final store in La Mesa where I came across……
INCA KOLA!
I was dumbfounded. Inca Kola is practically the national beverage of Peru and just over a year ago I was sipping it from a bottle while gazing out over Cusco. I’d never seen it anywhere else.
Naturally, I had to buy a bottle and force it upon my unsuspecting family. Not that the stuff tastes bad per-say, but it certainly has a distinctive flavor not common to American carbonated beverages. It tastes just like bubblegum and looks like anti-freeze.
Everyone cautiously (and graciously) gave it a try and while no one rushed for seconds, no one hated it either.
I’m currently sitting in the Las Vegas airport waiting for a connection to Seattle where I will share the Peruvian delight with another group of cohorts.
