Final Thoughts:
While I enjoyed my time in Helsinki, I wouldn’t say that I was overwhelmingly impressed. After awhile I started to feel somewhat bad for the Finns – all of their national heroes, after which monuments and streets were named, were people that I’ve never heard of.
Even their pride and joy cartoon character Mumin (who has been around for 60 years) was new to me.
And much of Finland’s design aesthetic (of which they are immensely proud) is borrowed from or modeled after the Swedes. I loved that the city was easy to navigate and there was plenty to do and see, but I don’t think there’s too much compelling me to make a return trip in the near future.
That’s how I felt. Getting hit by a cab aside, Helsinki held very little interest to me. It’s definitely no Copenhagen or Oslo!
Have fun wherever you’re going next! 🙂
