Las Vegas in Hindsight

A few weeks ago I flew to Vegas to meet up with my sister-in-law Courtney who had come all the way from Canberra, Australia for the Dominos Pizza Global Rally.  By the time I arrived, she’d already been running wild in Sin City for almost a week.

The last time I was in Vegas I was about 12 and spent nearly the entire time in the Circus Circus arcade.  Needless to say, the experience was quite different this time.

My first impression?  “Holy shit its HOT!”  As in, you walk outside and are instantly covered in sweat, hot.  It felt like I was in a dryer set on high heat and the light breeze did nothing but make it worse.  To top it off, the AC in my airport shuttle was broken, so when we reached the hotel it was all I could do not to sprint inside.

Being the last day of the Global Rally, Dominos was still footing the bill for a suite at the Palazzo.

And what a suite it was!  Luxury accommodation isn’t typically in my budget, so this was such a treat!

The view

Night two we bounced over to Planet Hollywood where an old friend from college hooked us up with a great deal on a room.

We landed the JFK room, which probably would have been cooler if either Court or I had seen the movie.

Our time was spent doing pretty much whatever we wanted…it was so nice to have nothing planned, no schedule and no responsibility.

We had drinks by the waterfall at the Wynn.

Walked The Strip.

Ate amazing Indian food.

Went out.

And shopped.  A lot.

Court even ended up taking home two pairs of Jimmy Choos (I lived vicariously through her purchase).

She got the black flats and the green/blue python stilettos!

The weekend was everything I had been told it would be; crazy nights, relaxing days and over-indulagnce at its finest!

Tips for spending time here:

1. Don’t spend all your time in the hotel you’re staying at.  Get out and check out some of the others, they’ve each got something different to offer.

2. Eat!  There are so many amazing restaurants in this town that it would be a shame not to indulge a bit.  But with so much to do, its easy to forget to eat.  We operated on two meals a day because we would simply loose track of time.

3. Remember how to get to your room.  Sounds silly, but the casinos are confusing! (Esp. after a few drinks).

4. Wear comfy shoes.

It’s great to hear that you guys had a great time! And yes one of the best things of it is eating.
