Photo Friday: Alpine Roller Coaster? Oh, Yeah!

On our first day in Krasnoyarsk, we attempted to visit the Stolby National Park and instead ended up at the Bobrovy LogSki Resort.  Frankly, this was an amazingly fortuitous mistake.

The slopes were missing snow, but the resort, opened in 2006, was designed for year-round entertainment.

During the summer months an outdoor wave pool, playground, rock climbing wall, zip lines, zorb tracks and a mini carnival keep a steady stream of visitors flowing through Bobrovy.

Being mid-October, some activities were closed but we hopped on a ski lift up the mountain to check out the view.

As we ascended the slopes, we noticed a strange track running through the woods to the right of us.  Upon closer inspection we realized that it was a roller coaster track.

I reverted to about age five – I’ve always been a sucker for speed and coasters and this one was one the side of a mountain!?!

After taking in the view, we rode back down and ran to the base of the roller coaster.

Correction, the Rodelbaun – Alpine Coaster.

I was giddy with excitement!

We hopped onto our cars and were pulled all the way up the mountain.

At the top, the cars were released and we took over control, determining our speed for the long (over 5 minute) trip down the mountain.

With nothing but a thin seat belt and the car whipping wildly around the tracks, it felt at times that I would flung from the seat.  It was incredibly fun!

Who knew that in the middle of Siberia would be one of the coolest roller coasters I’ve ever been on!?
