Photo Friday: Creatures of Puerto Rico

For some reason, when I left for Puerto Rico, I had in my head that I would see a myriad of tropical birds gliding from tree to tree. I was waaaay off base. Aside from the occasional stray sea gull, the only birds I saw the entire time I was on the island were those caged by the resort.

However, there were enough other critters roaming around that I wasn’t too disappointed.

Centipedes
Tiny Snails
Giant Snails in the Jungle – this one was about the circumference of a baseball
Tiny Hermit Crabs on the Beach
Coqui – Local Tree Frogs (that sound like birds)
 Iguanas near the Beach
Iguanas in the Trees

I loved walking around the resort and stumbling upon new wildlife. But, there was one creature that I NEVER actual saw, but was left thinking about far after I returned home…the mosquitos.

I came home with 83 little souvenirs in the form of bites.  But if that’s the price for nearly a week in the Caribbean, I’d say I still came out ahead.

Oh Lord! I was in Bonaire last summer, too, and came back with about 50 bites, and I’m not the type to get bitten frequently either so you know it’s bad…one of the girls on my dive boat had more than 200 on her legs alone! That taught me to always bathe in 100% DEET when vacationing in the Caribbean.

Beautiful photos, my girl! So excited to see these shots. Sorry about the bites, though…p.s. you know I’m drooling over the food photos in the next entry, right?
