Photo Friday: Melbourne at Nightfall

Regardless of the time of day, Melbourne is endlessly walkable, impeccably clean, easy to navigate and full of surprises.

Walking along the riverfront promenade of the Yarra River in the evening is genuinely enchanting. The countless restaurants, bars, live music and mingling patrons, provide eclectic background noise for the gleaming views of the skyline.
Toward the east end of the promenade (near Crown Casino) are a series of simple square, black pillars. A loud burst of air from the top the pillars signals any nearby birds to vacate and is followed by a column of flames rocketing skyward and illuminating the surrounding area.

The skyline is a nice balance of skyscrapers (Eureka Towr), unique architecture (Melbourne Art Center Tower) and historical buildings (Finders Station).
