Final Thoughts:

St. Petersburg ended up being a much more beautiful and fascinating city than I had anticipated. I loved that while the city was large, it didn’t feel overwhelming or inaccessible.

When I arrived it was the first time in a long time that I felt as though I was in a truly foreign environment. Although (I thought) I knew the Cyrillic alphabet fairly well, I was unprepared for not being able to understand anything.

Even trying to read street signs was a daunting challenge. Over time, it became easier to pronounce words, but I still had no idea what they meant.

I was amazed at how many weddings we saw all over town on weekdays; there seemed to be brides everywhere.

No matter where I travel, I love to just sit and people-watch. In St. Peters I marveled at the hats on display throughout the city – everyone has a fashionable hat and is put together from head to toe (even the kids).
