St. Petersburg: What I Ate

*For all my foodie friends and two gals especially, who always ask me first and foremost whne I travel someplace new, “So, what did you eat!?!”

Wonton – Asian style dumplings with pomegranate-soy dipping sauce.
Fresh Roasted Almonds – From a vendor in Mikhailovsky Gardens.
Cottage Cheese Pancakes – Small fritters stuffed with cottage cheese and then baked. Unfortunately, they were served with frosting (not a fan) but they tasted great by themselves just the same. From Coffee Bar.
Vodka – First shots in Russia, at the Vodka Museum.
Meat Dumplings – Served with sour cream (everything is served with sour cream). Delicious appetizer before an even more delicious main course (below).
Mince Meat – with mashed potatoes and wine sauce.

Cowberry Liquor – Compliments of the Vodka Museum Restaurant, this stuff was made in house and was quite tasty.

Pancake – Stuffed with chicken in a cream sauce. This is Russian fast food, from Tepemok.

Buckwheat Porridge – with cabbage and egg salad. This was my first introduction to buckwheat and I loved it! Filling, healthy and tasty.

Shchi ala Boyar Soup – A soup of brisket, potato, onion, carrot and mushroom topped with dough and then baked. So satisfying after spending a day in the cold.

Pannish – Homemade pork sausage, red cabbage salad, mashed potato dollops and a red dipping sauce. From a basement restaurant that featured traditional dancing.
