27 for 27: The Results

Given that my birthday just passed, its time to see how I did with my list of 27 things to do during my 27th year of life. Did I crush it and get everything done? Ha, nope! But I still think I had a respectable showing.

1. Finish Anna Karenina – It took me about 3 months to get through it, but its done. P.S. Tolstoy, you are one long-winded Russian!

2. Get to Canada (finally!)– Knocked this one out of the park! Spent Christmas at Niagra Falls, hit up Ottawa for a week in May and relaxed in Montreal for a long weekend in September.

3. Try Airbnb – I pretty much had a two bedroom apartment to myself in Montreal. And there were kittens!

4. Spend time with my Goddaughter– I got to see her several times through the year and am convinced that she is going to be a heartbreaker!

5. Complete a marathon – In less than 3 weeks I’ll be running the Marine Corps Marathon in DC…pray for me.

Competed the California International Marathon relay with the fam.

6. Go to a Washington Capitals game – Fail. Didn’t make it.

7. Tour the White House – Nope. But, I am touring the White House South Lawn gardens this weekend!

8. Join a sports team – Was going to join a Bocce Ball team, but it just didn’t happen.

9. Travel with a friend – Rocked this one all year long with trips to Miami, New Orleans and Key West with some of my favorite people.

10. Upgrade my photo equipment – Hello Rebel T3 and new iPhone 4S!

11. Learn to use said photog equipment – Still learning new things all the time…this will be a perpetual work in progress.

12. Sleep under the stars – Boo. I’m determined to go camping soon!

13. Try being gluten free for a month – I thought being vegan was hard! Being vegan and gluten free all January was ridiculously hard.

14. Max out my IRA – Locked and loaded and keeping my financial planner happy.

15. Enter Dixon in a dog competition – Not exactly a competition, but he was featured on Your After Animal Fix on Prince of Petworth.

16. Fly a plane – Took to the skies for lessons in May! And realized that I have no desire to be/business being a pilot.

17. Make a pilgrimage to Tahoe – Wasn’t in the cards this year.

18. See a show at the Kennedy Center – Everyday of the year at 6pm, there are free concerts in the main hall! Add to that the incredible rooftop view (that I am in love with) and I’m pretty much there at least once a week.

19. Project 365 – Wasn’t sure this one would happen, but I stuck with it!

20. See NYC at Christmas time – Unfortunately, this did not happen.

21. Sea Kayak – Not on a sea, but on a bay. So, not really.

22. Try acupuncture (i.e. get over my fear of needles) – So I tried it and almost had a nervous breakdown. The needles sticking out of chest and neck were a little much for me.

23. Sit in on a session of the Supreme Court – Just last week, I finally was able to do this! Even though I didn’t really understand much of what was going on it was still pretty damn cool.

24. Become more tolerant of country music– My bookclub ladies have had a major hand in getting me to enjoy some twang!

Bookclub spent a weekend in rural West Virginia – so country!!

25. Watch Gone with the Wind– “Don’t bother me anymore, and don’t call me sugar!”

26. Go rock climbing – Hiking, yes. Proper rock climbing, no.

27. Smash a plate against the wall – With the help of some fellow travel bloggers, this actually happened!

    Your kayaking totally counted!

Also, if you want a White House tour, contact your Congressman. They can easily hook you up with a tour! Oh, and since you live in DC (although I think Norton could arrange for them too?), just contact your Rep or Senator from whatever state you’re from.

I actually have a friend who works in the WH tour office! I just haven’t gotten around to actually doing it 🙂

First of all, wow, what a year. Re:Anna Karenina – impressive. Levin on the farm makes me exhausted every time. Second: plate breaking – shameful! You will NOT be welcome back in Girona. Third: you better get to NYC for Xmas ASAP!

Haha, I think Girona would still have me back (I hope)… I am definitely planning on headed to NYC this winter though, I’ll let ya know!
