Photo Friday: Breathing Easy

Back in mid-October I committed a HUGE travel no-no…I left a camera SD memory card behind at a hostel.  When I realized my mistake the next day, I had already left Ulaan Baatar and was 12 hours into a 30-hour train ride to China. There was nothing I could do.  Now, I don’t panic or freak out very easily, but I was crawling out of my skin with anxiety over losing that tiny miracle of electronic ingenuity.

That little card held the documentation of a massive portion of my trip.  Everything from central Russia, Siberia and Mongolia – gone.  I cannot explain the horrible feeling that engulfed me.  I felt ill.

That is until I realized that my travel pal Jacquelinewas still in Ulaan Baatar.  As soon as I had internet access again, I begged Jackie to try and find the card.  And bless her, she did!!!! Ahhhhh!  I was so so relieved.

And so, the forgotten memory card traveled with Jacqueline – through China and Vietnam and Cambodia – before making its way across the Pacific, back to me.

I received a glorious envelope from Phnom Penh last week and was at last reunited with my photos!

It really is amazing how something so small can be so incredibly important to my mental well-being.  Its been such a treat this week to go through the images and revisit all the adventures (and misadventures) from the trip!

And now I can continue to share them with you…

Thanks Silks!

I love happy endings! What a nice travel pal. Sadly, I have had far too many memory cards destroyed, and nothing is sadder than returning from a trip to find your images are all gone.

I had a similar stomach-turning panic attack a few weeks ago when I couldn’t find my camera (and all it had was Christmas pictures on it). I can’t imagine how you must have felt! So glad it had a happy ending!
