Photo Friday: Holiday Traditions w/International Flair

My family is big on Christmas.  As in, every available surface in my parents house is covered with holiday decorations of some kind.

Just before Christmas Eve dinner, each member of the family gets to open one present, an ornament that represents some big event in life from the past year.

With all the traveling my family does, these ornaments inevitably represent foreign destinations.  An elephant from Thailand, a windmill from Holland, a Viking from Denmark, and the list goes on.

In the early 1990’s we lived in the southern Arizona city of Tucson, just a short hour and half drive from the Mexican border.

We developed a love for authentic Mexican food and adopted the tradition of eating tamales for Christmas morning breakfast.

This year we even tried making them from scratch!

This Christmas while I spent time with my parents and extended family in San Jose, my brother is off on a Thai island getting his advanced Scuba certification.  Living the dream.  I am so blessed to have such a kick-ass family!
Merry Christmas to all!
