USA Road Trip: Day 2

Lake Havasu City, AZ to Gallop, New Mexico
531 Miles

(If you missed Day 1, check it out!)
After prying Mushi out from her hiding place under my hotel bed, we made a B-line for London Bridge.
In the daylight we could see the entire “London” city built at the base of the bridge – English pubs, phone booths, souvenir shops, and fish and chip joints.
Dixon, unsure of the fountain situation
The bridge itself was lined with American and British flags.
We grabbed some gas and hit the road back to I-40.
At Kingman we jumped onto Route 66 to get our fill of Americana.
Desert Puma
One small kitschy town after another appeared before us.
We entered the Hualapai Indian Reservation and soon found ourselves at Grand Canyon Caverns.
While we didn’t have enough time to take a guided tour of the caverns, we did explore the grounds and picked up some essentials at the gift shop – trucker and coonskin hats.
A short drive landed us in Seligman and back to I-40 bound for Williams.
Again we made a detour and headed north on 68 to the Grand Canyon.
On the way to the park entrance however, we spotted an attraction that could not be passed up…Bedrock City!
In the middle of Northern Arizona is the entire fictional city of Bedrock from the Flinstones.
We immediately reverted to our inner five-year old selves and giddily ran from building to building.
And took pictures with the characters.
And went down the brachiosaurus slide.
We soon realized that we were the only adults there who were not accompanying children.
No matter.  The place was amazing and true to the show in nearly every detail. Totally worth the $4 admission and an hour of our time.
Thirty minutes later, we found ourselves standing at Yavapai Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in complete awe of what stretched out in front of us.
Jaw, meet floor.  Pictures don’t some close to capturing the magnificence of the Canyon.
Even though it was freezing and really windy, we just couldn’t pull our eyes away.
The scene from the Lookout Tower at the Desert View Point was equally impressive.
Plus, it had a great view of the Painted Desert unfolding to the east.
I will be adding, “Hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon” to my Life List.
We piled back into the minivan and booked it to Flagstaff where we found a Mexican restaurant/bar for dinner, cervesas and the second half of the Super Bowl.
While the weather was clear, we decided to put some more miles behind us and drove to Gallop, New Mexico to stay the night.
