USA Road Trip: Day 3

Gallop, New Mexico to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
688 Miles
(See Day 1 and Day 2)
When we woke up in the morning there was a fresh layer of frost on the ground and the lowest temperate of the trip so far – 20 degrees.
We made quick work of New Mexico where Dairy Queen and excessive billboards and signage reign supreme.
In Western Texas the landscape turned white.
Just outside Amarillo we made a pit-stop at Cadillac Ranch.
The cars were a bit farther from the road than we had expected, so we pulled on our boots and trudged through the snow and biting wind.
Cadillac Ranch is on private property and is something of an evolving public art exhibit.  Anyone can add to the cars and we went right work on our contribution.
Proud, proud Ducks we are!
In Amarillo, we stopped for an early dinner at the Big Texan Steak Ranch.
While I’m vegan, Diana is die-hard meat lover.  The only two things on the menu that I could eat?  A house salad and dry baked potato.  But, they were quite tasty and Diana got her fill of steak.
We even got to see someone attempt the 72oz Steak Challenge – eat a 72ox steak, salad, roll and baked potato in under an hour and the meal is free.  He was a big dude, but didn’t even come close to finishing.
The Ranch building was a surreal place that had gem after gem.
Again, we loaded up on “essentials,” before pushing east to Oklahoma City.
Diana’s college roommate Jess now lives in Dallas, so she drove out to OK City and met us for the night.  We hadn’t seen Jess in years and it was great to catch up with her!
Our night ended at Hawaiian Don bar where fishbowl drinks are mandatory.  We had a great night and got a taste of Southern hospitality.
